WW2 Airborne Troop Carrier personnel

IX Troop Carrier Command members

Researching since 1999, I have seen a lot of names of members of IX Troop Carrier Command. Where in the first years my first focus was on the C-47 losses during operation Market Garden, this has spread to the entire IX TCC organization. The organization had at least (approximately) 40.000 members. Keeping in mind that members transfered out and in during those years, I expect the total number will be higher.

Although there is a logic reason that generally most interest by people is for the combat crews, there is much more to operate during war. One of the first to point this out for me was Martin Wolfe in his book 'Green Light'. Mr. Wolfe was a radio operator with 81st Troop Carrier Squadron and his book is one of my favourite Troop Carrier books. First of all, he wrote that members from other squadrons recognzed themselves in the stories. Even though it was another squadron, other names of persons written about, these Troop Carrier Squadron did the same jobs.

Beside the combat mission, with the combat crews seeing action, Mr. Wolfe also writes about the engineering, and has a chapter of 'How to run a Squadron' which is about the clercks and cooks.

Below is an extract of my files in a sort of spreadsheet with the names I have found so far. That list is certainly not complete. And it certainly has errors. Some name might appear double, other have typos. Feel free to point out such errors to me. My goal is to update this roster once a year. In the line of what I learned from Mr. Wolfe's book, the list includes all kind of personnel who were active within IX Troop Carrier Command.

Allow the list a bit time to load. It is searchable with the box in the right hand top corner.

Feel free to contact me in relation with men listed below. To make communication easier, please add the Veteran ID number. For Glider pilots, I would suggest to reach out to the research team of the National WW2 Glider Pilot Association, of which I am a member as well.

Further down, below the list, I add some (it will be impossible to have such for all members) biographies of Troop Carrier members. This will be with links to new pages.

This table just provides names. More information is availabe through the webmaster about these persons. Sometimes more than other times.

Research Identification of TCC members

Through the years I received a lot of photos with Troop Carrier members that were unnamed. Under Research I started a long term project, hoping to find names with the faces.
