TROOP CARRIER MONUMENT
AT THE DROPZONE AND LANDINGZONE AT SON, NETHERLANDS
In 2012 the Remember September 1944 Foundation placed a monument at the drop- and landing zone at Son, Netherlands. This was done to recognize the men of Troop Carrier who were active during Operation Market Garden, and particularly those who flew the missions to the fields surrounding the monument.
Units of 53rd Troop Carrier Wing were involved to drop paratroopers and landing gliders with men and material of the 101st Airborne Division. There were several monuments in the area to commemorate the 101st Airborne Division, but none that recognized the Troop Carrier units. With this monument, that has changed.
Through the years I have visited this monument with one Troop Carrier veteran and various children of men who flew to the fields surroudning the monument.
